Radio has been with me all my life. From the crackly sounds of short waves, which brought me to news and music behind the Iron Curtain to some high end appliances I met when working for a radio station. As I could never splash money, I could not afford a more advanced radio set. So on deciding to buy a new radio set I had to leave out expensive equipment and I’ve already got to terms with the thought, that I shall buy another mediocre peace of electronic. And then… Surprise surprise from the moment I shoved the plug into the socket. Easy setup (although reviews warned about difficulties with tuning into internet stations), good compliance with my economic class amplifier, simple but not simplistic design, then surprisingly good aerial and FM quality (again something which reviews lambasted) – all this warmed my heart to melt. I was particularly astounded at the way it works with bluetooth and the contents of the display – dear me! As I listen a lot of news and talk radio, I am happy about the plethora of stations in English, German and other languages of this genre. The sound of speech is also superb, making up for the fact that many news stations don’t bother about stereo and the the quality of sound in general. There is a fly in the ointment, of course, presetting stations can be quite a challenge. Overall performance is splendid for the contraption of this class and price.

Does exactly what I wanted it to do. Easy internet radio, DAB and Bluetooth. Hooked up to some old powered studio monitors I had lying around

This was a Christmas present from my wife to replace the Pure DAB tuner which was in our HI Fi set up for quite a while. The loss of Classic FM to DAB+ decided the upgrade.
this is an amazing piece of kit for the price. Set up was a doddle and connection to the internet was almost done by the unit itself. DAB comes in via our roof arial and the stereo signal is very strong. Lots of pre sets for all platforms and podcasts and Spotify work a treat. the unit fits neatly in my home made cabinet and looks very impressive. Overall I am very pleased with the Fitzwilliam 3.
I have one small gripe which is not a complaint but a suggestion. the unit came with a hot wired power lead. The Pure tuner was fed by a Russ Andrews Power cord (which has now been transferred to the Denon amp so not wasted) but it would have been good to have been able to connect to the Fitzwilliam.
Perhaps a thought for future models.
